ENTRY REQUIREMENTS (M.B.B.S., D.D.S., D.V.M.)

Academic Requirements:
The minimum requirements for admission to the Faculty are the candidates' performance and attainments in subjects listed below in the Caribbean Advanced Proficiency Examination (CAPE) / GCE A' Level.

 
   
 
Scheme A - Passes in tow units of Biology/Zoology, Chemistry, Physics or the GCE A' Level equivalent. CXC General / GCE O' Level Physics is required.

Scheme B - Passes in two units of Biology/Zoology, Chemistry, Mathematics or the GCE A' Level equivalent. CXC General / GCE O' Level Physics are required.

Scheme C - Passes in both units of Biology/Zoology, Chemistry or their GCE A' Level equivalent and one other two-unit CAPE or GCE A' Level subject. Passes in CXC General/GCE O' Level Mathematics and Physics are required.

The Minimum academic standard for entry is the aggregate of grades 1 and 2s in the three 2-unit subjects at CAPE or the GCE A' Level equivalent.
N.B.: Physics and Mathematics are compulsory at least at the CXC level, whereas Biology and Chemistry are compulsory at the advanced level.

Transfer applicants to Medical Sciences from the Faculty of Pure and Applied Sciences of the UWI may be considered on completion of the Preliminary and/or Introductory years of the programme. All such applicants must complete and submit a Transfer Form (only) by the second Friday in January in the year of application.

Persons holding UWI first degree from the Faculty of Pure and Applied Sciences with a minimum of lower second -class hors may be considered for entry.

Applicants with first degrees from Universities other than the UWI will also be considered provided that:

  • The University which granted the degree is recognized as competitive.
  • Credits have been obtained in Biology / Zoology and Chemistry
  • A minimum cumulative Grade Point Average of 3.0 or its equivalent has been obtained.

ENTRY REQUIREMENTS (B. Pharm)

Subjects at CXC / GCE O'Level

  • Minimum of five (5) subjects
  • compulsory - Physics

Caribbean Advanced Proficiency Examination (CAPE) / Other Requirements

  • Passes in both units of Chemistry and either Biology / Zoology, Physics / Mathematics at the CAPE or the GCE A'Level or equivalent.
  • All B. Pharm applicants must submit a letter of acceptance from the local Pharmacy Board in their country of residence.)
