The Budget
Division is responsible for the development of the UGC
biennium budgets for the Mona Campus of The University
of the West Indies, based on the guidelines of the Technical
Advisory Committee (comprised of contributing governments).
Income and expenditure from summer school and consultancy
funds are also accounted for.
The Division ensures that expenditure is kept within
budget by.
- monitoring expenses incurred by each department,
- issuing monthly reports to budget holders and
- advising departments of staff costs involved in
hiring new
personnel or internal staff movements

| Using the accruals
basis of accounting, funds are committed once a purchase
order is drawn, thereby reducing the available budget
balance for the department.
Liasing with the members of staff of the Budget Division
will assist in better understanding the budget process,
and prioritizing expenditure, so as to spend according
to the budget programme and avoid complete utilization
of budget months before year end with no funding left
for vital operational procedures |
