COMMEMORATION CONCERT AND PELICAN AWARDS
There is a wealth of talent among staff, students and alumni on the campus and this is when you get to see all that talent on parade! Come support your colleague, student or friend. Hear the University Chorale! Be amazed by the gyrations of the Dance Society! Performances by Carol Gonzalez, Rising Star finalist Nickeisha Barnes, Joan Andrea Hutchinson, NDTC and the exciting group Agbadza. Be prepared to have a truly enjoyable experience.
The UWI Alumni Association (Jamaica Chapter) also uses the opportunity to present its Pelican Award. The Pelican Award is presented to a graduate of the University who has contributed significantly to the development of the University or has made an outstanding contribution to Jamaica. This is the most prestigious award given by the UWI Alumni Association.
The first recipient of this honour was Professor Ken Magnus for his work in Chemistry in 1966. Since then, over twenty-nine such awards have been presented to graduates in several fields.
In 1994 at the gathering of the graduates, six such awards were presented and for our fiftieth anniversary, five were presented.
The recipients for this year are: Dr. Knox Hagley, Dr. Henry Lowe, Dr. Muriel Lowe, the Hon. Dennis Lalor and Professor Franklin Knight
