THE SHERLOCK YABBA
The Sherlock Yabba is an invitation to students to
make a contribution as a way of saying thanks to the
founding fathers who opened the doors to tertiary
education to the youth of the Caribbean. The proposal
originated with one of UWI’s distinguished alumni
who felt that it would be a means of educating young
students about this aspect of our heritage. Students
are given information about the founding fathers to
sensitize them to the value of acknowledging these
pioneers. The students are then encouraged to ‘turn
thanks’ by dropping a contribution in the yabba,
particularly during the matriculation ceremony on
all three campuses. The funds generated are used primarily
to enhance student services and cultural programmes
on all three campuses.
