Robert
Gregory was appointed Executive Director of the HEART Trust
National Training Agency of Jamaica (HEART Trust/NTA) on January
1, 1991.
He holds a Bachelors Degree in Management from Baruch College
of the City University of New York, a Masters Degree in Human
Resource and Manpower Development from the New School for
Social Research, as well as a Post Graduate Certification
in Institutional Management Consultancy from the RVB Institute
in the Netherlands.
His business career includes seven years service with the
AVIS Corporation in the USA, with responsibilities for management
training and organizational development. Returning home in
1979, he held the post of Programmes Director of the Institute
of Management and Production. In 1985 he was appointed Managing
Director of Hofab Manufacturing Company, the then ICD’s
Garment Export Manufacturing Subsidiary, building it from
two employees to over 600, producing and exporting over 60,000
dozen pairs of panty hose per week.
Mr. Gregory’s appointment as Executive Director of
the HEART Trust signaled the beginning of a process of organizational
transformation in keeping with Government’s policy to
establish a coordinating and enabling facility for the relevant
preparation and certification of a modern Jamaican workforce.
The HEART Trust, after significant reorganization and ongoing
organizational transformation, assumed the mandate of a National
Training Agency and became in 1991, the HEART trust/NTA. HEART/NTA
now co-ordinates a vocational training system comprising vocational
training institutes, colleges, secondary schools, NGOs, Community
Based Organizations, and Jamaican firms, using a variety of
training modalities; institution based, apprenticeship, on-the-job,
in-plant, and the beginnings of distance education methods.
Mr. Gregory is sold on the potential of our Jamaican workforce,
through proper preparation, becoming world class competitive
at levels sufficient to attract and retain sophisticated job
creating investments, paying wages commensurate with our peoples’
aspirations.
He is a founding member of the Jamaica Association for Training
and Development (JATAD), Chairman of the Student’s Loan
Bureau and a member of the Rotary Club of St. Andrew.
