Robert Gregory

Robert GregoryRobert Gregory was appointed Executive Director of the HEART Trust National Training Agency of Jamaica (HEART Trust/NTA) on January 1, 1991.

He holds a Bachelors Degree in Management from Baruch College of the City University of New York, a Masters Degree in Human Resource and Manpower Development from the New School for Social Research, as well as a Post Graduate Certification in Institutional Management Consultancy from the RVB Institute in the Netherlands.

His business career includes seven years service with the AVIS Corporation in the USA, with responsibilities for management training and organizational development. Returning home in 1979, he held the post of Programmes Director of the Institute of Management and Production. In 1985 he was appointed Managing Director of Hofab Manufacturing Company, the then ICD’s Garment Export Manufacturing Subsidiary, building it from two employees to over 600, producing and exporting over 60,000 dozen pairs of panty hose per week.

Mr. Gregory’s appointment as Executive Director of the HEART Trust signaled the beginning of a process of organizational transformation in keeping with Government’s policy to establish a coordinating and enabling facility for the relevant preparation and certification of a modern Jamaican workforce. The HEART Trust, after significant reorganization and ongoing organizational transformation, assumed the mandate of a National Training Agency and became in 1991, the HEART trust/NTA. HEART/NTA now co-ordinates a vocational training system comprising vocational training institutes, colleges, secondary schools, NGOs, Community Based Organizations, and Jamaican firms, using a variety of training modalities; institution based, apprenticeship, on-the-job, in-plant, and the beginnings of distance education methods.

Mr. Gregory is sold on the potential of our Jamaican workforce, through proper preparation, becoming world class competitive at levels sufficient to attract and retain sophisticated job creating investments, paying wages commensurate with our peoples’ aspirations.

He is a founding member of the Jamaica Association for Training and Development (JATAD), Chairman of the Student’s Loan Bureau and a member of the Rotary Club of St. Andrew.
