Dr.
Ethley London has been the Executive Director of the University
Council of Jamaica (UCJ), since its inception. The UCJ is
the quality assurance body for tertiary education in Jamaica.
In her capacity as Executive Director, she provides leadership
and direction in the development and implementation of academic
standards employed by the Council in accreditation of tertiary
institution and programmes.
Dr. London started her professional career in teaching and
later moved into academic administration. She taught within
the secondary school system in England, Guyana and Jamaica
and later at the College/University levels in the United States
and Jamaica.
Prior to joining the Council, Dr. London served as Head of
Tertiary Education in the Ministry of Education, Jamaica,
where she was responsible for planning and monitoring programmes
and policies in tertiary education nationally. She was also
responsible for planning and establishment of the University
Council of Jamaica and became its first Executive Director.
During her early years at the Council, she established the
Joint Committee for Tertiary Education (JCTE), an association
of over forty public and private tertiary institutions whose
mission is the promotion of quality, institutional strengthening
and the sharing of resources.
