Prof.
Trevor Munroe is Professor of Government and Politics at the
University of the West Indies, Mona, a Government Senator
and a Director of the Jamaica Confederation of Trade Unions.
He is a Jamaican Rhodes Scholar, completing his Doctorate
at Oxford University before he was twenty-five years old and
a two-time Fulbright Scholar, taking up his Fellowships on
both occasions at Harvard University.
Professor Munroe, a long-standing civic activist, is President
of the University and Allied Workers’ Union (UAWU),
one of Jamaica’s major trade unions, representing workers
in the public sector, in telecommunications, in manufacturing
and in agriculture.
He serves on many boards, including United Way of Jamaica
and the Sugar Industry Authority.
As a scholar, he has received many academic awards, including
the UWI’s Vice Chancellor’s Award for Excellence
in 2000, and has authored or co-authored 8 academic books
and numerous articles. Professor Munroe has served as consultant
to many organizations, among them the World Bank, Transparency
International, the Organisation of American States and the
Carter Center.
