James
Walsh has been on the staff of Brown’s Town Community
College since 1975. He became Principal in 1997. A teacher
and Community Development enthusiast, he holds a B.Sc. Degree
in Sociology and a M.Sc. in Development Studies and a Certificate
in Educational Administration.
Although primarily an educator James Walsh is involved in
politics, community development, micro enterprise financing
and the Credit Union Movement, among many other things.
One of his latest interests i s the “Learning College”
concept. Another is how Community Colleges can partner with
various organizations and other external stakeholders to successfully
execute their mission.
Mr. Walsh is Chairman of the St. Ann Parish Development Committee,
Vice Chairman of the St. Ann Friends for Education, Chairman
of the St. Ann’s Bay Community Development Fund, and
a Director of HEART Trust/NTA, the St. Ann Development Company,
and the St. Ann Co-operative Credit Union among other involvements.
He is a former Gleaner Columnist and has researched and published
on craft vending in Jamaica. He has also presented papers
on various subjects at educational conferences.
