Neville
Ying is the actg. Executive Director of the Mona School of
Business, UWI. He is also Professor of Business Development,
Mona School of Business and Director of the Labour Studies
Programme of the University of the West Indies.
Professor Ying has had a proven track record of achievements
and excellence in performance at Executive and Senior Management
positions in the public sector, private sector and tertiary
level institutions, including UWI. Some of the positions in
which he has served are: Group Vice President, Human Resource
and Development, Mechala Group (formerly ICD Group); Director
of the Board of the ICD Group, Facey Commodity Company Limited,
Serge Island Dairies Limited and Superannuation Limited; Chairman,
Institute of Management & Production; Project Manager
UWI/USAID Management Education Project; Executive Director,
Institute of Management & Production; Assistant Chief
Education Officer and Head of Research, Evaluation and Counselling,
Ministry of Education, President Jamaica Employers’
Federation, Vice President Caribbean Employers’ Confederation,
President of the UWI Guild of Graduates.
His teaching and professional activities at the University
level includes Professor of Business Development, Mona School
of Business, UWI; coordinator and lecturer for Strategic HRM
in the M.Sc. programme in HRD, Sociology Department, UWI;
External Examiner, Mathematics, for the Joint Board of Teacher
Education, UWI; External Examiner for the B.Sc. programme,
Business Administration, University of Technology. He has
published articles in internationally recognised journals
and has also published textbooks.
He is a member of Council of the Jamaica Employers’
Federation, and sits as a member on several Boards, among
which are the Overseas Examinations Committee, the Mico Foundation,
the Jamaica Flour Mills Foundation, the Mico College Board,
and the University Council of Jamaica.
He is also a professional member of the Institute of Management
Consultants of Jamaica, Jamaica Association for Training &
Development, the American Society for Training & Development,
the Society for Human Resource Management and the American
Compensation Association.
His academic background spans Mathematics, Physics, Measurement
& Evaluation, Statistics, Human Development and Strategic
Management. He holds a Teachers’ Diploma, B.Sc. in Mathematics
and Physics, an M.A. in Measurement and a Ph.D. in Psychometrics.
He has received numerous awards including Man of the Year
1995, American Biographical Institute Gold Medal for outstanding
community and professional achievements; Pelican Award for
outstanding contribution to the University of the West Indies
and the wider society, UWI Guild of Graduates, 1998; Mico
Millennium Award 2000 for distinguished service and outstanding
performance, 2000; The Chancery of the Orders of the Societies
of Honour, Jamaica - The Order of Distinction in the Rank
of Commander Class in recognition of contribution made in
the Fields of Human Resource Management and Business Development,
2001.
