Time Sharing in Jamaica: Challenges and Prospects

Patrick Lynch

“Don’t rent the room, buy the hotel, its cheaper”, a quote attributed to Mr Paul Doumier in 1987, the conceptualizer of time share.

Today, time share with over 4000 resorts and 3 million households having ownership, is now not only here to stay, but represent a dynamic vehicle for accessing vacation products in an increasing number of countries.

Jamaica, a time share destination for over twenty years, appears poised to break into this lucrative market with several local entities gearing up to participate, as the government looks toward establishing an enabling environment in anticipation of positive growth.
