Mr.
Jean Stewart Holder attended school at Harrison College, Barbados
and was awarded the B.A. and M.A. degrees from Oxford University.
He also studied at Trinity College, University of Toronto
and was later a UN UNITAR Fellow at the Palais des Nacions
in Geneva Switzerland.
His career spans the diplomatic service, tourism and air
transportation. Mr. Holder was appointed to several positions
including the Federal Diplomatic Service, Deputy Head of the
Eastern Caribbean Commission, representing the “Little
Eight” countries in the United Kingdom in 1962 and First
Secretary, Barbados High Commission, London. He was appointed
Secretary General of the Caribbean Tourism and Development
Centre in 1974 and Secretary General of the Caribbean Tourism
Organization. He is currently Chairman of the Board of LIAT
(1974) Ltd.
Mr. Holder has contributed to four Books on Tourism and written
over 140 tourism articles during his thirty years of service
with regional tourism organizations.
He has received some thirty awards for service to diplomacy
and tourism. These include Member of the Royal Victorian Order,
Barbados Centennial Honour, CTO Life Achievement Award , and
Doctor of Laws honoris causa (UWI).
Mr Holder is former Director of the Centre for Management
Development (CMD), Cave Hill Campus and is Chairman of the
Cultural Committee of Cricket World Cup 2007. Married to Norma
Joy Edmondson of Jamaica, he has two daughters.
