Mr.
Chandana (Chandi) Jayawardena is the first non-European to
be elected as the President of the Hotel and Catering International
Management Association (HCIMA), UK., the largest professional
hospitality management association in the world with membership
in 104 countries.
Chandi currently holds the position of Professor at Niagara
College, Canada and Revans University. He is also associate
editor, International Journal of Contemporary Hospitality
Management and Chairman, Board of Advisors, Institute of Tourism
and Hotel Management, Sri Lanka.
In an international career of 31 years in hospitality management
and tourism education, Chandi has held senior management positions
and leadership roles. He was a Senior Lecturer and the first
Academic Director for MSc in Tourism and Hospitality Management
of the University of the West Indies and the first faculty
exchange Professor of Ryerson University, Canada. He has also
held Visiting Professorships in the UK, USA, Switzerland,
Guyana and Sri Lanka. He has published 9 books, 67 book chapters
/ articles, including 23 in refereed journals. In 2003 he
won the Best Paper Award from Emerald Publishing, UK
In addition, Chandi has been the General Manager of several
large business hotels including the Le Meridien / Pegasus
in Jamaica. He is also an artist and an award-winning song
writer. He is married and has three
children.
