YASUS AFARI represents the immortal vision of the ancient future, stimulating the revolutionary will to conquer poverty, ignorance, and injustice, by releasing positive vibrations in harmony with words, sounds and power.

The Early Years Artiste, Author, Poet and Philosopher YASUS AFARI, affectionately called ISUS, was mysteriously born and nurtured in rural Jamaica , to parents whose combined age was very close to 100 years. He started writing in the 1970's in response to his early fascination with nature and the environment. Accordingly, YASUS' first poem was “The Travelling Sun”. At an early age, he quite intriguingly, started to chant futuristic utterances while creating “his own music”, with the accompaniment of old tin cans and his cousin Andrea.

While attending St. Elizabeth Technical High School (STETHS) in the mid to late 70's, ISUS was very passionately involved in drama and writing for the school's magazine. This momentum carried over into his world of work at the Jamaica Telephone Company in Mandeville, where he contributed his writings to the “Jamaica Lines Magazine” and was also published in one of the daily newspapers.

During the 1980's, AFARI was an innovative student leader at the College of Arts Science and Technology (CAST) where he first put his poetry to music. It was while at CAST that YASUS AFARI embraced the Faith and Livity of RASTAFARI and created his classic poem, “Eye Pen”.

Dub Revolution YASUS started recording in the second half of the 1980's but came to national attention at the genesis of the 1990's with recordings such as “Fi Wi Sound”, “Honour”, “I Can See Clearly” (in combination with Garnet Silk), “Teachings of Marcus”, “Patwah Talking” and “A Soh Wi Tan”

At the prestigious and controversial Jamaica Music Industry (JAMI) Awards Ceremony in 1993, held at the Jamaica Pegasus, Mutabaruka handed over his JAMI Award to YASUS who Muta felt was “more deserving”. This incident heightened the profile of AFARI and strengthened his artistic/poetic muscles which energized his Dub Revolution. Consequently ISUS engineered an onslaught into the Dance Hall which he christened with his “Dance Hall Baptism” with the help of the other Christian Souljahs.

The 1990's and beyond witnessed YASUS touring the world (including North and South America, Europe, Africa and the Caribbean ) as well as recording with the likes of

Black Uhuru, thereby enhancing his international profile and expanding his horizons and the “Revolution in Dub”. In the same breath, ISUS released the afromantic “Woman I Love You”, the inspirational “Work” and the visionary “Brand New World” which appeared on the Grammy nominated album “Black Uhuru Strongg”.

During this time YASUS received numerous awards, accolades and press features, including gracing the cover of the Billboard Magazine. He also managed to produce his own music as well as that of other artistes and promoted several ground breaking and successful stage shows.

Edutainment and Poetry in Motion In 2001 YASUS AFARI released “Put it EEN”, which he used to herald his entrepreneurial spirit in harmony with his House of Honour enterprise, through which he published his anthology called “Eye Pen”.

In 2005 YASUS ventured into professional acting via the TV series “Royal Palm Estate”. Yet, in his own inimitable fashion, he managed to balance that adventure with the hard hitting social commentary/song “Dem corrupted to Rawtid”.

Another remarkable aspect of YASUS AFARI is his consistent and inspirational work with youths, which has branded him “The Edutainer”. He has been very instrumental in the Ministry of Education's Culture Agency Programme and has helped to develop the government's policy document on “Culture in Education”. Consistent with this focus, YASUS – in 2004, through his Edutainment Promotion – started the successful and classy annual showcase called “Poetry in Motion”, which again demonstrated his vision and social-engineering skills.

Overstanding RASTAFARI – Revolution Chapter 1 In March 2007 YASUS released his first book of prose entitled “Overstanding RASTAFARI – Jamaica 's Gift to the World”, which Prof. Barry Chevannes described as “second to none”. In addition to this, YASUS has released his 5 th album, “Revolution Chapter 1” and will be embarking on an island wide Book/Album Tour of Jamaica, the Caribbean and the world, that will help unfold the future testament of YASUS AFARI – The Edutainer par excellence.
