A Jamaican, Dr. Jenny Jemmott is a graduate of the University of the West Indies , Mona. Her academic qualifications obtained at this institution include the B.A. (Special Honours) History, (Upper Second Class Division); the Diploma in Education (History) with Distinction in the Theory and Practice of Education; the PH.D History (with High Commendation). She is the recipient of the Principal's Research Award for the most outstanding Research Activity , Faculty of Humanities and Education, 2006, for her thesis entitled The Black Family in Jamaica , 1834-1882 . Her research interests include nineteenth-century social history with an emphasis on family history and she has presented aspects of her work at several academic conferences. Currently a temporary lecturer in the Department of History and Archaeology at the Mona campus, Dr. Jemmott teaches courses at both the undergraduate and graduate levels.
