Mary Noel Menezes
Sister Mary Noel Menezes, RSM: Born in Guyana 1930, educated at St. Joseph 's High Scgool, Georgetown , received her religious education training in Pennsylvania with the Sisters of Mercy. In 1952, Sr. Menezes obtained a Teacher's Diploma in Education (with Honours) from the St. Joseph's Training College in Jamaica; a BA (History from the College Misericordia, Dallas in 1964; an MA in Latin American History (summa cum laude) from Georgetown University in 1965 and in 1970 she was offered a Ford Foundation Fellowship to read for her PhD at the University of London. Her PhD thesis, (1973) : “British Policy towards the Amerindians in British Guiana , 1803-1873” was published in 1977 by Oxford University Press. Sr. Menezes' career includes teaching at the GCE Advanced Level (English Literature, Religion, Art and Civics) and History (Western Civilization, Latin American History, World Civilization, History of England, Philosophy of History , Comparative Guyanese and West Indian History ) at College Misericordia, Dallas and the University of Guyana .

Sr. Menezes is the author of several books including “Goodall's Sketches of Amerindian Tribes”, “The Amerindians in Guyana, 1803-1873”, “The Amerindians and the Europeans”, “Amerindian Life in Guyana”, “Scenes from the History of the Portuguese in Guyana”, “The Portuguese of Guyana: A Study in Culture and Conflict.”

Sr. Menezes has delivered lectures and presented papers at several Universities in the United States , England , Holland , India and the Caribbean . She has been the recipient of a number of academic, national, regional and international honours and awards, including an Honorary Doctor of Laws from The University of the West Indies
Outside of her academic work Sr.Menezes is also well known for her charitable work and the establishment of orphanages for boys in Guyana.
