| Dr. Rupert Lewis is Professor of Political Thought in the Department of Government of the University of the West Indies in Kingston , Jamaica . He is the author of Marcus Garvey Anti-Colonial Champion , and has edited two volumes, Marcus Garvey: Africa, Europe and the Americas and Marcus Garvey His Work and Impact. He is also author of the book Walter Rodney's Intellectual and Political Thought . He recently compiled the CD-ROM – Marcus Garvey's Jamaica 1929-1932 .
He is chairman of the Friends of Liberty Hall which spearheaded the restoration of Garvey's Liberty Hall at 76 King St. in Kingston , Jamaica . Liberty Hall – the legacy of Marcus Garvey was opened on October 20, 2003 as a museum, multimedia and research centre. Professor Lewis is also Associate Director of the Center for Caribbean Thought at the University of the West Indies and serves as Chairman of the Advisory Board of the African-Caribbean Institute of Jamaica and Jamaica Memory Bank.
