I am a comparative physiologist with training in metabolic and neuro- physiology. I have served as lecturer in Zoology (Faculty of Natural Sciences); Senior Lecturer and Professor in Physiology (Faculty of Medical Sciences); Head or the Department of Physiology and of the combined Department of Basic Medical Sciences; Deputy Dean in the Faculty of Medical Sciences; Coordinator for Graduate Studies & Research in the Graduate School, Mona Campus, UWI; and presently serve as Dean, Faculty of Pure & Applied Sciences and Professor of Human and Comparative Physiology.

My research experience includes blood/respiratory physiology and neuromuscular and central nervous system physiology in both vertebrates and invertebrates. Particular interests include physiological adaptations to the environment.

I have expertise in metabolic studies, psychophysiological experimentation and stereotaxic neurosurgery in cats and rats. I have conducted studies on the hydrodensitometric and whole body impedance techniques for determining body fat content in human subjects.

Major research techniques include electrophysiology, ranging from intracellular micro-electrode studies to computerized electroencephalography (cEEG) in invertebrates and vertebrates, including human subjects.

More recent research interests have focused on bioactivity studies of Natural Products.

I have supervised several graduate students at the MPhil and PhD levels.

I Chair the Advisory Board of the Natural History Division of the Institute of Jamaica and serve on several other national committees including the National Commission for Science & Technology.
