What Does It Mean?
The Mission of the UWI is further explained in the following context:
To advance education: Provide opportunities to the population of the region and beyond for higher education that fosters creative activity and notions of shared community, enhanced social and interpersonal relations, and critical and creative thinking skills; To create knowledge: Engage in research that serves to: (i) create significant new insights, (ii) explore and apply solutions to priority national and regional problems and challenges, (iii)exploit developmental potential and competitive advantages, (iv) position self and society in a changing world order, and (v) provide a sound basis for public policy formulation and decision making;
To support inclusive development of the Caribbean region and beyond: Maintain a capacity to supply and support a wide range of expert technical, professional and advisory services to meet the needs of national governments, public and private sectors, and regional and international institutions, and to involve all stakeholders in the process; and be a significant contributor to global intellectual growth and human development by producing scholars that harness the creative energies, cultural diversity, social experiences, biodiversity and other assets of the region and beyond.”.
