JAMAICA DAY 2013 - “Celebrating Jamaica: I’m On It”

As you may well be aware, Jamaica Day will be celebrated on Friday, February 22, 2013, under the theme "Celebrating Jamaica: I'm On It." By now your preparations for Jamaica Day 2013 should be moving into high gear. Here are a few tips to help us all have a really successful day:

  • Ensure that the widest cross section of your school community is represented on the planning committee for the in-school celebration: teachers, students, parents, non-governmental organization (NGOs), Community Groups, etc.;
  • Ensure that students are adequately informed of the plans for the day and are prepared to make their best contribution to its success;
  • Select the students who will represent your school at the central activity at the Trelawny Multipurpose Stadium and communicate this information to your Community Relations Education Officer (CREO);
  • Pool resources with schools in your Quality Education Circle (QEC) to ensure that your school is represented at the Stadium;
  • If your school turns 50 this year or did so last year, select the student who will represent your school in the Opening Parade;
  • Consult the Jamaica Day Planning Guide and
  • Refer any major challenges to your CREO.

Remember that the Regional Offices are represented on the Jamaica Day National Planning Committee through the CREO's.
