ADMISSION OF STUDENTS TO THE
BACHELOR OF EDUCATION PROGRAMMES

(PART-TIME,ONLINE)
FOR SECONDARY SCHOOL TEACHERS

2007-2008

• Applications are invited from secondary school teachers for admission to the Bachelor of Education programmes to be offered by the University of the West Indies (UWI), Mona.
• Bachelor of Education (B.Ed) with majors in:

Language Education: English
Mathematics Education
Language Education: Spanish
History Education
Science Education: Chemistry
Literacy Studies
Computer Science Education/Information Technology

MATRICULATION REQUIREMENTS

All applicants should have one of the following:

• A Teachers' College Diploma in the option you are applying for;
• A Teachers' College Certificate with A level/CAPE in relevant interest area or its approved equivalent OR
• An Associate Degree from an approved institution in relevant area of interest

* Applicants for Literacy Studies should normally have:
A trained Teachers' Certificate. Additional professional development training would be an asset .

Compulsory for all students – English Language CXC (CSEC) or GCE O Level

ENGLISH LANGUAGE PROFICIENCY TEST (ELPT)

All applicants who have not achieved a Grade 1 in English (English A) in CXC (CSEC), a Grade A in GCE O level English Language, A Grade 1 & 2 in CAPE Communication Studies or a Grade A in GCE General Paper, are required to take the English Language Proficiency Test. The test registration form and an application fee of US25.00 should be submitted with the application for entry to the University. The test date will in May 2007 and further details may be obtained from the UWI Distance Learning Centre by April 30, 2007.

INTERNET ACCESS : This is an on-line programme and personal access to the internet is a requirement.

DURATION: All programmes, except Literacy Studies, will start in September 2007 and normally run for 6 semesters and 2 summers. Literacy Studies will start at the end of June 2007 and normally run for 4 semesters and 3 summers.

APPLICATION FORMS/FEES

• Application forms are available from the Resident Tutor at the University Centre OR click here to apply online.
• Applicants who are not applying on-line are required to pay an application processing fee of US$30.00 at any branch of the National Commercial Bank and submit the voucher along with the completed application form.
• The following original documents MUST be submitted with the application:

Birth Certificate, Academic Certificates/Grade Slips (accepted only in cases where the certificates are not yet available), Professional Certificates, Diplomas if applicable, Marriage Certificate/Deed Poll (whichever is applicable) if present name is different from that on documents.
