ED23E: ACTION RESEARCH FOR SCHOOL AND CLASSROOM MANAGERS
DURATION OF COURSE 1 SEMESTER

NO. OF CREDITS 3

Rationale:

Effective management of school organization presupposes a well-trained and educated worhforse to enable the accomplishment of goals. Consequently, a course in action research must be a vital component in the education and training of school and classroom managers. Because the solutions to the day-to-day problems of the school require a systematic approach to problems solving, a course designed to equip school and classroom managers with research skills will enable them to do their jobs better.

For years teachers and administrators have used trial and error in the way they respond to school-based problems, and as many have articulated, have had less than satisfactory results. Action research looks at problems in a particular setting, in this case the school, and provides the tool to engender the professional growth and development of school personnel in ways that facilitate improved teaching and learning.

Course Objectives

1. To help students understand the nature and process of action research
2. To equip students with new skills and methods, sharpening their analytical powers and heightening self awareness
3. to enable students to find remedy for problems in school administration thereby improving the teaching learning situation.
