• Applications are invited for admission to the B.Ed.
Special Education programme to be offered by The University
of the West Indies (UWI) in collaboration with Mico College. The
programme will be of a three year duration , culminating in the
award of a B.Ed degree.

MATRICULATION
REQUIREMENTS
• Applicants should have a minimum of five GCE /CXC subjects
including Mathematics, English, and a Science subject, preferably
Biology / Human and Social Biology or Anatomy and have successfully
completed all “zero level” courses.
• Have a Diploma in Special Education maintaining a B average.
Students who have completed Year 1 of the Diploma Programme will
enter Year1 of the Degree Programme, while those who have completed
Year 2 will enter the Year 2 of the Degree Programme.
• Applicants who are trained teachers in regular education
will be admitted to Year 1 of the Degree Programme. All other
applicants will be assessed on an individual basis.
ENGLISH
LANGUAGE PROFICIENCY TEST (ELPT)
All applicants to the Mona Campus of The University of the West
Indies who have not achieved a Grade 1 in English (English A)
in CXC (CSEC), a Grade A in GCE O’level English Language,
A Grade 1 & 2 in CAPE Communication Studies or a Grade A in
GCE General Paper, are required to take the English Language Proficiency
Test. The test registration form and an application fee of $1500
should be submitted with the application for entry to the University.
The date of the test is March 9, 2007

FORMS/FEES
• Application forms are available from the Admissions office
at Mona.
• Applicants are required to pay an application processing
fee of JA$450.00 at any branch of the National
Commercial Bank and submit the voucher along with the completed
application form.
• The following original documents MUST be submitted with
the application:
- Birth Certificate, Academic Certificates/Grade Slips (accepted
only in cases where the certificates are not yet available), Professional
Certificates, Diplomas if applicable, Marriage Certificate/Deed
Poll (whichever is applicable) if present name is different from
that on documents.
