Library and Information Studies
Course Description
(3 credits)
This course is an introduction to the library and information profession
with an overview of the current issues in the field. Included are
the concept of information and information transfer, ethical issues
relating to the use of information, the evolution of information
units, an introduction to the major systems and services in the
field, the various types of libraries and other information units
and their role in society.

None
Learning Objectives
Students will:
- become knowledgeable about the development of libraries over
time, the different types of units, and the various issues and
trends in the field.
- know the professional literature in the field.
- understand and describe the roles of professional associations
in librarianship and become active members of these associations.
- demonstrate responsibility to the profession through active
involvement.
