The UWI Tourism society is an official Tourism Action Club of the Jamaica Tourist Board, integrating with UTECH and other action clubs in secondary schools across the island.Our Mission is...To be a catalyst for enhancing the potential of students of the University of The West Indies (Mona Campus), contributing to greater awareness, visible involvement relationship building, and participation with Tourism at all levels, ultimately enhancing the human input in sustainable tourism development in Jamaica and the Caribbean.
The general objectives of the club are to:- Build local and international relationships coupled with a strong membership base, providing a diversity of skills and perspectives in contributing to the mission of the organization.
- Contribute to the promotion of The Mona Campus of the University of West Indies as a tourism attraction.
- Promote the principles of Sustainable Tourism.
- Provide professional networking and social opportunities for members.
- Provide career building, leadership and service opportunities for members, especially those with a specific tourism career interest.
- Enhance and support the academic experience of tourism students at UWI Mona through industry exposure and involvement in special projects and programmes.
- Establish a visible voice and image in the media and the Jamaican public on issues of tourism development in Jamaica.
- Stimulate partnership between tourism students, the faculty and general UWI administration.
- Contribute to general tourism education in institutions, with a focus at UWI Mona Campus. Building relationships with other tourism societies and clubs across Jamaica.
- Support community projects, through member volunteerism and fundraising.
- Provide support to the marketing unit of the Management Studies department.
