The Earthquake Unit

The main responsibilities of the Earthquake Unit are to:

scribble as bullet  Operate and manage the Jamaica Seismograph Network (JSN) which consists of 12 stations and 8 accelerographs

scribble as bullet  Maintain a database of all earthquakes recorded by the JSN

Equipment recording live feeds at the Earthquake Unit from stations across Jamaica.

scribble as bullet  Inform the public about earthquakes felt in Jamaica

scribble as bullet  Collect information about earthquakes felt in Jamaica

scribble as bullet  Conduct research on the seismicity, seismic hazard, current tectonic activity, site response and vibration analysis

scribble as bullet  Serve as Jamaica's National Data Centre for the Comprehensive (Nuclear) Test-Ban Treaty Organization (CTBTO) International Data Centre
