Welcome to the website of the Emergency Medicine Division, Department of Surgery, Radiology, Anaesthesia and Intensive Care at The University of the West Indies Faculty of Medical Sciences. We function under three broad mandates; namely: service,  training and research.
We are committed to the delivery of Emergency Care which is safe , reliable and efficient .  This is facilitated by state of the art equipment  and trained Emergency Physicians , nurses and other health personnel ( eg . Emergency Room Technicians –ERTs ) .
We manage approximately 54,000 patients per year. Our location provides a fast-paced and challenging environment for learning and clinical practice.

We train tomorrow's leaders in emergency medicine to positively affect the lives of our patients and to expand the standard our of specialty's contributions to patient care. Our educational responsibilities have our highest commitment as we  endeavour to shape the future of emergency medicine in Jamaica and the rest of the region. 

Our faculty's interests include trauma management, geriatric emergency medicine, sexual assault management, sports medicine, clinical toxicology, and the use of ultrasound in the emergency department.
