A Modern Journal
In 1997, the Editor, Professor Nigel Gibbs, instituted
an extensive review of all aspects of the Journal to identify changes
needed to bring it in line with modern international medical publications.
To achieve these, an Administrative Editor, Ms Molly McGann, was
appointed and the Editorial staff strengthened by the addition of
an Associate Editor in Jamaica to complement those appointed in
Trinidad and Tobago and Barbados in 1988. There were changes to
the layout and contents, some of which were instituted before his
untimely death in 1999. He was succeeded by Dr (now Professor) Everard
Barton who has implemented others of these as well as making further
changes to improve its quality and international standing.
The staff of the Journal have been consistently
challenged in their efforts to produce a quality publication. The
Journal is indebted to Mrs Bridget Williams and Mrs Urcella Holness-Scott
who were its backbone staff for several decades. The wish for the
future is that the Journal will remain a beacon of excellence in
the region and continue to hold its place of pride as an international
publication.
