| Consolidation During
the rest of the first quarter century of its existence, the Journal
set about establishing itself in the region. When the Standing Advisory
Committee on Medical Research in the Caribbean (SACMRC) held the
first of its annual meetings in 1956, the Journal published a summary
of the Proceedings and continued to do so annually thereafter. In
1974, the SACMRC became the Caribbean Medical Research Council (CCMRC)
and a summary of the proceedings of the scientific meeting of this
new organization began to be published in the Journal. In 1956,
the Editorial Board decided to send complimentary copies of the
Journal to Universities and other scientific bodies in Central and
South America and summaries in Spanish, later Interlingua were added
at the end of each article but in 1963, this was replaced by a version
in English. In 1959, Proceedings of the first meetings of the Medical
Research Society of the University College of the West Indies and
of the Association of Surgeons of Jamaica were included in the Journal.
By 1962, the Journal had become better known and
established and to improve the processing of articles, an
Assistant Editor was appointed and made a member of the Board.
Seven years later, an eight member Advisory Editorial Board
was established to bring wider representation to discussions
and decisions affecting the Journal.
