LECTURER/ SENIOR LECTURER IN ACTUARIAL SCIENCES

The Department of Mathematics – Faculty of Science and Technology

 The UWI provides tertiary-level education to the entire English-speaking Caribbean region, with a student body of more than 45,000 students from countries worldwide, 19,052 of whom attend the Mona campus.  The Department of Mathematics is currently developing a research capacity in Actuarial Science and has strong research in the areas of Stochastic Processes, Fluid Mechanics, Operations research and Applied Statistics. The Department currently offers Undergraduate, Masters and Ph.D. degrees.

Qualifications and Experience: 

Applicants must have a Ph.D. in Actuarial Sciences or its equivalent. A candidate with Actuarial credentials (Associate/Fellow) in any actuarial professional organization with strong research is also given the equal consideration. Experience in teaching and independent research, including a track record in attracting research grants, is desirable.

 The successful candidate will be required to:

§  Teach undergraduate and graduate courses;

§  Develop an active research programme;

§  Supervise research students at the undergraduate (final year), Masters and Ph.D. levels;

§  Participate in the strategic planning and management of teaching and learning, including curricula development within the Department and wider Faculty;

§  Carry out administrative duties as required by the department.

Candidates who possess the following will be at a distinct advantage:

§  Certificate in University Teaching;

§  Experience in teaching and independent research;

§  Experience supervising research (MPhil/PhD) students;

§  Evidence of prior grant acquisition;

§  Evidence of Curriculum Development (face to face or distant delivery modes);

§  Administrative Experience within an Academic Institution;

§  Evidence of contribution to the Public Service OR field of Study.
