The M.Sc. in Integrated Urban and Rural Environmental Management commenced in September 1998 in response to the need for increased capacity building in the area of environmental management in the region. The programme consists of four core courses, five specialisation streams, and a research project. The entire course of study covers a twelve month period.

A good honours degree is required for entry into the programme and the selection is made on a competitive basis, owing to the constraints on the number of places available each year.
