About
Us
The University of the West Indies Geology Museum (UWIGM) is located
on the ground floor of the De la Beche Building, Department of Geography
and Geology. The UWIGM was established in 1969 as a facility to
house Department's geological collections, and was opened to the
public in 1970.
The UWIGM is comprised of a Main Exhibit Gallery and a Collection
Storage Facility. There are approximately 15,000 items in the collections
and represents the largest collection of rocks, minerals and fossils
in the English-speaking Caribbean. These items have been collected
primarily from Jamaica and the rest of the Caribbean, but there
are also several items collected from other countries.
