  9. MAJORS AND MINORS

A MAJOR is a cluster of compulsory courses in a particular discipline

A MINOR requires five compulsory courses in a particular discipline at Levels II and III.

The Department of Government offers MAJORS and MINORS in the following disciplines:

All MAJORS require 30 credits, i.e. 10 compulsory courses at Levels II and III, plus Year I courses (Level I prerequisites).

All MINORS require 15 credits, i.e. five compulsory courses at Levels II and III.

Compulsory courses (core courses) are courses that you are required to complete in order to be awarded a major or a minor.

Electives are courses which you may choose from a list provided by the Department.

Free electives are courses which you may pick up from any Department or Faculty, as long as you satisfy the prerequisites.

Prerequisites are courses you must complete before you may register for a more advanced course.

Students taking two (2) majors or a major/minor offered by the Department are required to select an alternative course where a compulsory course is common to both.

For each Major/Minor, there are requirements, which you must fulfill in order to be awarded a Major from the Department of Government.  Please make careful note of them.

N.B.: Courses marked with an asterisk (*) are 6 credit courses, offered over 2 semesters. All other courses are 3 credits.
