Why would I talk to a Peer Counsellor?

Students can talk to a peer counsellor about anything that is bothering them. If the issue is one the peer counsellors are unable to help with, they are aware of other resources on campus to whom they can refer. They are also available as a "friendly ear" if another student just wants someone to talk with - especially helpful for new students who may feel unconnected in their first year.

Students may talk to Peer Counsellors about things like:

  • My parents and I don't seem to get a long.
  • I'm new on Campus and I can't make any friends.
  • I can't seem to settle down to start studying for those exams.
  • I don't have a problem, but I just want to tell you about my dog that died.
  • I just don't understand my boyfriend/girlfriend sometimes.
  • I just have to talk to somebody who won't turn me down.
  • Whom should I see about this problem without getting the run around?
  • I need more hours in a day.
