What do I need to become a Peer Counsellor?
  • A genuine desire to help others
  • To be seen by others as being approachable
  • Clarity of personal values and an unwillingness to arbitrarily impose those values on others
  • To have shown some leadership potential
  • Sense of commitment and dedication

Sense of maturity as measured by:-

  • acceptance of responsibility
  • tactfulness and respect
  • confidentiality
  • exercising sound judgment and common sense accurate perception of self and others

Application forms can be collected from the Secretary, Room 14 University Health Centre in the period starting the second week of September until the second week of October. Initial training is done during the entire week preceding the start of Semester 2.

Please note that:
a) preference is given to first and second year students
b) postgraduate students who are not in their final year are also welcome to apply
