Dr. Franklyn Lahee is the psychiatrist at the Health Centre.
A Trinidadian by birth, he received the Bachelor of Medicine, Bachelor
of Surgery (MBBS) in 1973 from the University of the West Indies and
was awarded the Degree in Psychological Medicine (DPM) of the Royal
College of Physicians and Surgeons by the Institute of Psychiatry,
Maudsley Hospital in London, England. In 1984 he completed his Doctorate
of Medicine in Psychiatry (DM) at the Department of Psychiatry, University
Hospital of the West Indies in Jamaica.
Dr LaHee has had extensive experience in the field of Psychiatry
and came to us after living in Grand Cayman from 1989 where he worked
as Consultant Psychiatrist to the Government of the Cayman Islands.
He provided comprehensive psychiatric care to people and visitors
of the Cayman Islands (in-patient, 24-hour emergency, crisis intervention,
out-patient clinical services, public education, consultation, research,
forensic services and continuing education). While in the Cayman
Islands, Dr LaHee also spearheaded the building of an eight-bed
in-patient psychiatric unit.
From 1984 to 1989 Dr LaHee was employed as Consultant Psychiatrist
to the Government of Trinidad and Tobago where he developed and
established a comprehensive community-based mental health service
delivery system in Tobago (24 hour crisis intervention, 24 hour
in-patient care, district outreach clinics, public education, services
for consultation, forensics, children, mentally challenged, geriatrics
and continuing education).
He was also Consultant Psychiatrist at the St Ann’s Hospital
in Port-of-Spain, Trinidad for the period 1987 to 1989.
His professional memberships include the American Psychiatric Association,
the Caribbean Psychiatric Association and the Royal College of Psychiatrists.
