| Presented early in Semester I, this five
session Thursday afternoon workshop series provides new and returning
students with the skills needed to cope successfully with studying
at university level. Academic work at the university level requires
additional skills to those used in sixth forms and teachers’
colleges.
This workshop will help you hone skills in the following areas:
Assessing your Learning Skills
There are many things that go into making study successful. The self-administered
quiz used in the first session helps you to assess how well you are
doing on each dimension.
Improving Note Taking Skills
Trying to take dictation does not work at UWI. Learn a more
effective method of note taking which pays dividends at test
times.
Improving Memory and Concentration
Learning to work when there are distractions is important and so
too is the ability to remember critical information when you need
it.
Time Management and Stress Management
Proper time management is a critical tool for success with so much
unstructured time at this level.
Test Taking Skills
Information given on the UWI exam system is particularly helpful
for new students.
The printed materials used in this workshop are available at a
cost both during and after the sessions.
