H32D:
From Minstrelsy to Rock and Roll: History of Popular Cultures in the United States

Prerequisite: Pass in H22C OR H22D.

As cultural studies develops and becomes a critical part of the historiogra- phy of the United States, there is an increasing need for historians of the U.S.A. to look at this aspect of the country=s development. It is necessary for scholars to question the bases upon which that territory made collective choices, as well as adopted to social, economic and political paths it did. Cultural studies, and specifically, cultural activities are often indicative, reflective and refractive of collective consciousness.
