Course Work Guidelines

During the semester an in-depth study of the major arguments presented in selected works on Williams' theses will be undertaken. To enable active participation students are encouraged to read as many of the related works as possible prior to the seminar date. Students will be assigned an article/book or theme which they will be required to prepare and present on the date scheduled for its discussion. For seminar presentation reading of the seminar paper will not be allowed, instead students will be required to address/ highlight only the important issues and ideas raised in the paper thus ensuring that sufficient time is allowed for class discussion. Students will be required to give an outline of the presentation to the class prior to the presentation date of the topic/theme. A copy of which must be submitted for reference.

Students are encouraged to complete all course work requirements. Seminar research paper/Essay should not exceed 3000 words, preferably type written but legible hand written work will be accepted. They should show a relatively high degree of research (not necessarily from primary sources) and analysis and be properly referenced (footnotes or endnotes). Note that all materials borrowed (ideas, quotations, data, statistics, ideas, views etc.) must be acknowledged. Failure to do so is tantamount to plagiarism, which is a very serious misdemeanour. Please consult a Style Manual e.g. the MLA Handbook, for assistance. Unreferenced work will be returned ungraded.
RESEARCH PAPERS BECOME DUE ON THE DATE OF THE SEMINAR PRESENTATION. No late essays will be accepted unless accompanied by a medical certificate.
