| The Department of History offers programmes
leading to the M.A., MPhil. and Ph.D. degrees. The M.A. is based mainly
on coursework, while the M. Phil. and Ph.D. degrees are based mainly
on theses. Candidates should hold at least a Second Class Honours
degree in History or any other subject(s) approved by the Department.
Candidates must be suitably recommended by their teachers.
All graduate students should have a modern foreign language competence.
Those who did not take either S10R (reading course in Spanish) or
F10R (reading course in French) as undergraduates, will be expected
to register for one of those courses as a co-requisite.
The Department will accept only applicants for whom proper supervision
can be provided.
Students registered as full-time, must attend classes full-time
(at least 80% of seminar classes). Part-timers masquerading as full-timers
will not be permitted.
Students are required to present papers at the Staff/Graduate Seminar.
