COMPENSATION AND BENEFITS UNIT

To manage and administer employee benefits to foster a sense of job security while simultaneously conducting on-going assessment of the compensation and employee benefit package of the university in order to ensure that The University of the West Indies remains competitive a and choice employer.

The Compensation and Benefits unit administers the compensation and benefits plans of the Mona Campus and provides Deans, Heads of Departments, managers, supervisors and employees with support, advice and information about the benefits programmes offered by the University. These initiatives include pension provisions, health insurance, group life insurance, tuition assistance programmes, retirement plans, allowances and leave entitlements.

Specifically, the Unit provides the following services:

• Advises employees about the University’s benefit programmes
• Assists with staff queries and requests
• Ensures that staff name and update the list of their beneficiaries
• Processes initial enrollment of staff and where necessary their dependents in the University’s benefits programmes and facilitate subsequent renewals and enrollment changes
  
• Facilitates employee access to the benefits to which they are entitled.
• Determines benefit eligibility
• Reviews and verifies employee coverage
• Reviews tuition applications and determine assistance eligibility
• Processes the termination of benefits
