Undergraduate Programmes

The Institute currently offers six courses in Caribbean Cultural Studies at the Undergraduate level, three in each Semester. These courses are:

  • Introduction to Caribbean Cultural Studies (AR25A),
  • The Culture of Rastafari (AR25X),
  • African Religious Retentions in the Caribbean (AR25X),
  • Caribbean Films and their Fictions (AR25F),
  • Discourses in Cultural Studies (AR35A) [NEW] and
  • Sports (AR25S) [NEW].

Students also have the option of doing a Minor in Cultural Studies that is offered in conjunction with other Departments across the Campus. Apart from the courses above students can pursue modules in Sports, Dancehall, Gender Studies and Popular Jamaican Music.

The ICS will also be introducing a new discipline in the form of Rastafari Studies for the 2005/06 academic year.

The Institute has been able for the past few years to facilitate the compulsory Foundation course Caribbean Civilization (FD11A). It is taught in both Semesters and also in the summer.
