Dr. Peter Williams is a policy analyst, strategic planner,
market analyst and educator who has worked for more than two
and a half decades on projects related to the tourism industry.
In his professional capacity, he has worked in Canada and
abroad for government agencies, tourism operators, communities
and tourism boards on assignments related to the development,
marketing and on-going management of tourism destinations
and rural regions. His consulting specialities include tourism
product development, market development, strategy development,
and resource assessment and management. As a researcher, he
is Director of the Centre for Tourism Policy and Research
on projects which encourage sustainable forms of tourism development
particularly associated with more remote and less developed
communities and regions.
Dr. Williams has published more than 90 articles and books,
as well as numerous technical reports on tourism land-use,
development and marketing issues. Several of these have
dealt with emerging nature-based and cultural tourism
issues confronting rural and backcountry regions. He
is a past President and former Chairman of the Board
for the International Travel and Tourism Research Association
– an organization dedicated to encouraging excellence
in tourism research and strategic planning. His extensive
experience conducting professional tourism management
and planning projects and his published research papers
provide many valuable insights for the emerging community
tourism product area.
