LA10B Constitutional Law
  1. General

This course will be taught in the second Semester of Year I of the LL.B. degree
programme. It is a compulsory core course.

2. Course Objective


All of the independent states of the Commonwealth Caribbean have written
constitutions which represent their basic law. It is therefore crucial that students
be exposed very early in their law course to a study of this basic law. The aim of
the Constitutional Law course, then, is to provide such exposure.

3. Course Content
Because of its importance, the Constitutional Law course coverage aims at both
depth and breadth. The topics covered include:
1. The General Characteristics of the Constitution
2. General Constitutional Principles including Judicial Review
3. The Legislature
4. The Executive
5. The Judiciary
6. The Machinery for Protection of Civil Rights
7. Constitutional Reform

4. Method of Teaching
This course will be taught by way of two lectures and one tutorial per week.
Each lecture will be of one hour duration and the tutorial will also be of one hour
duration.

5. Method of Assessment

This course will be assessed by way of a three hour final examination at the end
of the second semester. Students will be required to answer four questions
selected from a total of eight questions
