LA23A Public International Law I
  This course will be taught in the first Semester of Year II and III of the LL.B.
degree programme.

The student must select this course or Comparative Law I. However, a student may choose both Public International Law I and Comparative Law I.

2. Course Objective
The objective of this course is to provide an introduction to the principles,
customs and rules of International Law. Students after completing this course
should be able to tackle most advanced International Law topics.

3. Course Content
The course content of this course is as follows:
i. The Nature and History of International Law
ii. Sources of International Law
iii. International Law and Municipal Law
iv. Application and Function of International Law
v. The Law of Treaties
vi. The Subjects of International Law
vii. Recognition of States and Governments

4. Method of Teaching
This course will be taught by way of two lectures and one tutorial per week.
Each lecture will be of one hour duration and the tutorial will also be of one hour
duration.
5. Method of Assessment
This course will be assessed by way of a two hour final examination at the end
of the Semester in which it is taught. Students will be required to answer two
questions selected from a total of four questions.
