Comparative Third World Constitutions |

1. Course Objective
The aim of the course is to examine some of the major constitutional
problems
that confront Third World countries.
2. Course Content
The topics to be covered are:-
i. Choice of constitution-making; autochthony
ii. Revolutionary legality
iii. Constitutional fundamentals
iv. Constitutionalism, legitimacy and the judiciary
v. Constitutional office-holders and their role and functions
vi. Leadership and accountability
vii. Political, social and economic rights and obligations
viii. Essentials of constitutional litigation
ix. Public Order
x. Inter-governmental relations (centralisation and decentralisation)
3. Method of Teaching
This course will be taught by way of two lectures and one tutorial
per week.
Lectures and tutorials are of one-hour duration.
4. Method of Assessment
95
Fifty percent (50%) of the marks of this course would be by way of
continuous
assessments i.e. two written essays during the course of the Semester
and fifty
percent (50%) by way of a two-hour final examination at the end of
the second
semester. Students will be required to answer three questions selected
from a
total of six. |
