LA35C Comparative Third World Constitutions
  1. Course Objective
The aim of the course is to examine some of the major constitutional problems
that confront Third World countries.

2. Course Content

The topics to be covered are:-
i. Choice of constitution-making; autochthony
ii. Revolutionary legality
iii. Constitutional fundamentals
iv. Constitutionalism, legitimacy and the judiciary
v. Constitutional office-holders and their role and functions
vi. Leadership and accountability
vii. Political, social and economic rights and obligations
viii. Essentials of constitutional litigation
ix. Public Order
x. Inter-governmental relations (centralisation and decentralisation)

3. Method of Teaching
This course will be taught by way of two lectures and one tutorial per week.
Lectures and tutorials are of one-hour duration.

4. Method of Assessment

95
Fifty percent (50%) of the marks of this course would be by way of continuous
assessments i.e. two written essays during the course of the Semester and fifty
percent (50%) by way of a two-hour final examination at the end of the second
semester. Students will be required to answer three questions selected from a
total of six.
