Due to terms and conditions of licensing agreements, access to certain databases is restricted to registered students and current faculty and staff of the University of the West Indies, Mona. Resources to which this restrictions apply are indicated as such (UWI only). Access to these resources is available as follows:

On Campus: from any computer workstation connected to the University's local area network i.e. in the Library, Computer Labs, Faculty Offices, Halls of Residence etc.

Off Campus using the ISP (Internet Service Provider) of your choice you will be asked to enter your UWI staff or UWI student Id number and your UWI_Mona or Student domain password.
Remember that MITS sets your password to expire in 42 days, so please renew password when you are prompted to do so.

Biomed Central (UWI only) Primarily an electronic publishing platform for scientists, but also provides open access to the journals published by BIOMED.
EbscoHost Research Databases (UWI only). Provides access to numerous databases including:

  • Academic Search Complete: The world's largest academic multi-disciplinary database. Provides full text for more than 4,000 scholarly publications, including full text for nearly 3,100 peer-reviewed journals.
  • Business Source Complete::  The World's largest full text business database. Provides full text for over 3,600 scholarly business journals, including full text for nearly, 1,050 peer-reviewed business publications.
  • CINAHL a major resource for nursing and allied health professionals, students, educators and researchers.
  • Communications & Mass Media Complete covers communication, mass media, and other closely-related fields of study to create a research and reference resource of unprecedented scope and depth encompassing the breadth of the communication discipline
  • EconLit with Full Text: contains more than 480 journals, including the American Economic Association journals.
  • Hospitality & Tourism Complete covers scholarly research and industry news relating to all areas of hospitality and tourism.
  • MasterFILE Premier this multidisciplinary database provides full text for nearly 1,750 general reference publications with full text information dating as far back as 1975
  • Regional Business News: Incorporates coverage of 75 business journals, newspapers and newswires from all metropolitan and rural areas within the United States

HighWire Press (UWI only) hosts the largest repository of high impact, peer-reviewed content from over 140 scholarly publishers.
HINARI Provides access to the major journals in biomedical and related social sciences. Requires a unique user name and password . Please contact the Main Library or Medical or Science Branch Libraries.
IEEE All-Society Periodicals Package (UWI only) Provides access to the IEEE's core collection of over 120 engineering, electronics, and computer science periodicals. This package does not include the full text of conference proceedings, IEEE standards and IET journals. Full text of Transactions starts from 1998.
JSTOR (UWI only) -- offers both multidisciplinary and discipline-specific collections. The UWI library has access to the Arts & Sciences I, Arts & Sciences II, Business, and Language & Literature Collections.
MathSciNet (UWI only) -- a comprehensive database covering the world's mathematical literature since 1940.
Medline (PubMed) The National Library of Medicine's search service that provides access to over 10 million citations in  Medline, PreMEDLINE, and other related databases, with links to participating online journals.
NetLibrary - (UWI only) a collection of electronic books
NewspaperARCHIVE The world's largest archive of online newspapers including the Jamaica Gleaner.
NLM database The NLM Gateway allows users to search in multiple retrieval systems at the U.S. National Library of Medicine (NLM).
OARE (Online Access to Research in the Environment) provides access to one of the world’s largest collections of environmental science research. Requires a unique user name and password . Please contact the Main Library or Medical or Science Branch Libraries.
Popline from the Johns Hopkins Center for Communication Program provides citations with abstracts of the worldwide literature on population, family planning, and related health issues.
Project Muse (UWI only) - is a unique collaboration between libraries and publishers providing 100% full-text, affordable and user-friendly online access to over 300 high quality humanities, arts, and social sciences journals from 60 scholarly publishers.

Scifinder Scholar Provides chemical and related scientific information from Chemical Abstracts Service. It includes patents, journal references, substance information, regulated chemicals, chemical reactions and chemical supplier information. Individual user registration required for the web version . Caribbean Child Development Centre's Online Publication Database
Caribbean Digital Library
- A web service of the Caribbean Knowledge Management Centre. It provides access to Caribbean documents on the web and is artranged by 21 broad headings.
CARIBLEX
- the ILO's database of national labour legislation for the 13 ILO member States of the English- and Dutch-speaking Caribbean. This database is maintained by the ILO's Subregional Office for the Caribbean.
Carilaw (Caribbean Law Online)
Carindex: (not available at present) an index of social sciences and humanities literatures published in the Caribbean.

Contains information on all aspects on health and medicine relating to the English speaking Caribbean and Suriname. Produced by the Medcarib Network for which the Medical Library is the Regional Coordinating Centre.
MORD - Mona Online Research Database contains scholarly output from faculty and staff of The University of the West Indies. It covers over 6,000 entries of published and unpublished material, technical reports and expert information, linked to staff profiles and covering the period 1993 to present.Links to full text electronic documents when they exist are available.
