Anthrosource - Database Trial

The Libraries of the three campuses of the University of the West Indies are presently running a 60 days trial of AnthroSource the premier online resource serving the research, teaching, and professional needs of anthropologists. Developed by the American Anthropological Association (AAA), AnthroSource brings 100 years of anthropological material online to scholars and the public and can be accessed at http://www.anthrosource.net/

Project Muse

Project MUSE is a unique collaboration between libraries and publishers providing 100% full-text, affordable and user-friendly online access to over 300 high quality humanities, arts, and social sciences journals from 60 scholarly publishers.

UWI Launches New Online Catalogue System in January

The three campuses of the University of the West Indies i.e. Mona, Cave Hill and St. Augustine will be implementing a new, state-of-the-art integrated online system in its libraries in 2007. The Mona Campus will launch the system in January, 2007. This means that the users of the library will encounter a completely new online catalogue that is more user-friendly and provides improved services.

The new Library Integrated System, ALEPH was selected over a number of other tenders based on its capabilities and its compatibility with the needs of the library’s clients. It is a software from Ex Libris, a worldwide pioneer, with over twenty years of experience in the field of software solutions for libraries and information centers.

Library Offers Fines Amnesty On Long Overdue Items


In preparation for the switch to the New Integrated Library System, ALEPH, the UWI Mona Library will be offering a fine amnesty on long overdue items. This amnesty will run during the period December 4, 2006 – January 31, 2007 and, no fines will be charged when books which were due before December 4 are returned. Users are encouraged to use this opportunity to return long overdue items.

Please note that the amnesty will not be applied to fines already calculated and outstanding or to items borrowed after December 4 and subsequently returned overdue.

The implementation of the new library system is a University-wide project and comes into effect on all three campuses in January, 2007. It will facilitate improved service delivery as well as greater resource sharing between the campus libraries.
