THE RESERVE BOOK COLLECTION (RBC) BROCHURE UNIVERSITY LIBRARY
(Mona Campus)
What is RBC?
RBC is a collection of books, articles, etc. recommended by lecturers on undergraduate reading lists.
What is the purpose of RBC?
RBC provides highly recommended reading material to large numbers of students. The loan period is shorter than normal to allow access by the greatest number of students.
What is the loan period for RBC material?
• Overnight
• 3-hour (Reading Room) loan. These items are not to be removed from the Library. Are there enough books for each student in a course?
Multiple copies are purchased for courses with large numbers of students, and for items that serve more than one course. However, such copies are not always enough to satisfy the demand. Therefore, the more quickly items are returned, the more quickly they become available to others.
Who can borrow from RBC?
All registered students of the University.
How does the issuing system work?
A separate RBC request form must be filled out for each item. A numbered ticket system is used for the issuing of items.
Failure to obtain an item might mean that all copies have been issued out already. It might also mean that the item was never recommended by your lecturer, and therefore is not in RBC.
How can you help?
Make sure the item you need is in RBC by checking the location in the online catalogue. (e.g. MN-RBC-Books means the item is a book located in the Main Library’s RBC).
Fill out the RBC request forms correctly.
Have your UWI ID card at all times.
Return items promptly so that as many students as possible can have access to these items.
Are there penalties for the late return of books?
Yes. Fines are charged for overdue book by the hour for 3 hour loan Reading Room material, and by the day for Overnight material. Please check at the Circulation Desk for current charges.
