Dr. Hyslop is a freshwater ecologist and fish biologist specializing in the biology and ecology of freshwater fauna in Jamaica’s river systems. His research has focused on the freshwater gastropod molluscs, and their tolerance to frequently-used insecticides and environmental factors such as temperature, salinity and total suspended solid levels. He also combines molecular and morphological techniques to provide novel information on the taxonomy of fish in Jamaican rivers. His research interests include developing a biomonitoring scheme for deducing water quality from macroinvertebrate communities, as well as examining the role of freshwater fauna as indicators of organic pollution.
