Heartworms in Dogs

Field studies of dog heartworm infections are
currently under way in Falmouth, Mandeville and
K ingston.

They are designed to examine the transmission
characteristics of this important veterinary parasite
in Jamaica

Flatworms in Tilapia

An important barrier to the successful culture
of tilapia in seawater  off Jamaica is infection
with the parasitic flatworm Nneobenedenia
melleni. The scanning electron micrograph
shows "footprints" of the parasite on the
surface of a fish and damage caused by the
parasite's attachment structures (arrowheads)
